(как <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ʒyrd"/> от <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ʒūryn"/> ‘говорить’ и т. п.). Такой глагол действительно
существует со значением ‘поджаривать’ (см. выше <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cūryn"/>) Если эта близость не обманчива, то развитие
значения было: ‘горячий’ →‘проворный’. Мало вразумительно сравнение
<hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Benveniste</hi>'a c<mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d1729e252" xml:id="mentioned_d1729e231" xml:lang="ae"><lang/>

<etym xml:lang="en">The word looks like past participle of some verb *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">curyn</hi>
(like <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ʒyrd"/> is from <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ʒūryn"/> speak etc). Such verb does exist in the meaning
roast (see above <ref type="xr" target="#entry_cūryn"/>) If this connection is
true, than the development of teh meaning was the following: hotnimble.
<hi rendition="#rend_smallcaps">Benveniste</hi>'s comparison with <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d1729e231" xml:id="mentioned_d1729e252" xml:lang="ae"><lang/>
<w>čarətu-</w>
<gloss><q>linear measure</q></gloss></mentioned> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_BSL"/><biblScope>LII 8</biblScope></bibl>) is less
