<etym xml:lang="ru">Буквально „злой день“; см. %r3%r<ref type="xr" target="#entry_fyd"/> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fud</hi> ‘дурной’ и <ref type="xr" target="#entry_bon"/> ‘день’. То же сложение, но без связующего гласного
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">æ</hi> (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_fydbon"/>) сохраняет значение, более
близкое к буквальному. Ант. <hi rendition="#rend_italic">xærzbon</hi>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_xærzæbon"/> „добрый день“ употребляется только как формула прощания. Ср. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fydæxsæw"/>.</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">It literally means “evil day”; see %r3%r<ref type="xr" target="#entry_fyd"/> | <hi rendition="#rend_italic">fud</hi> bad and <ref type="xr" target="#entry_bon"/> day. The same composition, but without a linking vowel <hi rendition="#rend_italic">æ</hi> (<ref type="xr" target="#entry_fydbon"/>) retains the meaning, which is more close
to the literal one. The antonym <hi rendition="#rend_italic">xærzbon</hi>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_xærzæbon"/> “good day” is used only as a farewell formula.
