сведениям XVII в., брали на воспитание детей крымских ханов, <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">чтобы этим выказать свою покорность</q>. Стало быть, в

этой среде <q>хан</q> и <q>воспитанник</q> могли обозначаться одним словом, а в последнем
|
|||
|
значении слово могло быть затем воспринято осетинами. Действительно, в этом значении слово

|||

<gloss><q>tsar</q>, <q>khan</q></gloss></mentioned>: the pupil was called <q>khan</q>,

|||

because he was surrounded by special care and honour. It should also be taken into account
|
|||
|
that the Circassians, according to the information of the XVII century, took the children
|
|||
|
of the Crimean Khans for upbringing, <q rendition="#rend_doublequotes">in order to show
|
|||
|
their submission by this</q>. Therefore, in this environment <q>khan</q> and
|
|||
|
<q>pupil</q> could be designated by one word, and in the latter meaning the word could
|
|||
|
then be perceived by Ossetic people. Indeed, in this sense the word is attested:
