черный</q></gloss> позволяет высказать догадку, что <ref type="xr" target="#entry_satæg_1"/> и <oRef/> содержат один и тот же корень <mentioned xml:lang="oos"><m type="rec">šǎ(i)-</m></mentioned>, и.е. <mentioned xml:lang="ine"><m type="rec">škā(i)-</m>, <m type="rec">šḱə(i)-</m>

black</q></gloss> allows to hazard a guess that <ref type="xr" target="#entry_satæg_1"/> and <oRef/> contain the same root <mentioned xml:lang="oos"><m type="rec">šǎ(i)-</m></mentioned>, Indo-European <mentioned xml:lang="ine"><m type="rec">škā(i)-</m>, <m type="rec">šḱə(i)-</m>
<gloss><q>shadow</q></gloss>, <gloss><q>glow</q></gloss>,
<gloss><q>shine</q></gloss></mentioned> (<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Pokorny"/>
<biblScope>917</biblScope></bibl>). And if <ref type="xr" target="#entry_satæg_1"/> is
traced to <mentioned xml:lang="oos"><w type="rec">sātaka-</w> or
<w>sātaθa-</w></mentioned>, <oRef/> may be traced (with the insertion of nasal <c>n</c>,
as in Latin <mentioned xml:lang="la"><w>scintilla</w>
<gloss><q>spark</q></gloss> from <w type="rec">skantilla</w></mentioned>) to <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w type="rec">sānta-</w></mentioned>. The weakening of vowel <c>a</c> to
<c>æ</c> in compounding is usual; see below <ref type="xr" target="#entry_sæntʒæf">sænt-ʒæf</ref>
<gloss><q>sheepish</q></gloss> from <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>sont</w> (<w type="rec">sānt</w>)</mentioned>. — The appearance of a nasal consonant in derivatives from
Indo-European root <mentioned xml:lang="ine"><m type="rec">šḱāi-</m></mentioned> is
characteristic also for some other languages: <mentioned xml:lang="cu"><lang/>
