<etym xml:lang="ru">Во второй части — <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>xodæ</w>
<gloss><q>шапка</q></gloss></mentioned> (см. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_xūd"/>).
Первая (<mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>salf</w>, <w>sælf</w></mentioned>) не ясна. Созвучие с
<ref type="xr" target="#entry_salf"/>
<gloss><q>иней</q></gloss>, надо полагать, случайно (шапка, маскирующая человека, как иней
— деревья?). Или (с метатезой <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>slap</w>

<etym xml:lang="en">The second part of this word is <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>xodæ</w>

origin of the first part (<mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>salf</w>, <w>sælf</w></mentioned>)
isn't clear. The consonance with <ref type="xr" target="#entry_salf"/>
<gloss><q>frost</q></gloss> one must assume to be accident (the hat that masks a human,
like frost masks trees?). Or should it be associated (with metathesis <mentioned xml:lang="os"><w>slap</w><w>salp</w></mentioned>) with <mentioned xml:lang="lt"><lang/>

(<bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_СЕИ"/><biblScope xml:lang="en"> 133 ff.</biblScope></bibl>). Or it may refer
