<c>pʼ</c> под влиянием <c>m</c>, ср. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmpʼūzyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmpūlyn"/>. Оба получились из <w type="rec">æm-tūxyn</w>, см. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_tūxyn"><w>tūxyn</w>
<gloss><q>завертывать</q></gloss>, <gloss><q>обертывать</q></gloss></ref> и
префикс <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"/>. Появление смычногортанных
<c>p</c>, <c>t</c> здесь, как и в ряде других случаев, связано с
представлением о физическом усилии (см. <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/>
<biblScope>522</biblScope></bibl>), ср. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmpʼūzyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_rætʼūzyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æntʼæryn"/> и др. Глагол <w type="rec">æm-tūxyn</w>
дал еще одну перебойную вариацию <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æncʼūxyn"/> q.

<etym xml:lang="en">Alternating version of the verb <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æntʼūxyn"><w xml:lang="os-x-iron">æntʼūxyn</w><w xml:lang="os-x-digor">æntʼoxun</w></ref> with the same meaning
(<c>tʼ</c><c>pʼ</c> influenced by <c>m</c>, cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmpʼūzyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmpūlyn"/>. Both
of them have got out of <w type="rec">æm-tūxyn</w>, see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_tūxyn"><w>tūxyn</w>
<gloss><q>wrap up</q></gloss>, <gloss><q>envelop</q></gloss></ref> and
prefix <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æm-"/>. The occurrence of the ejectives
<c>p</c>, <c>t</c> is, like in several other cases, associated here with
the idea of physical effort (see <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_ОЯФ_I"/>
<biblScope>522</biblScope></bibl>), cf. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æmpʼūzyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_rætʼūzyn"/>, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æntʼæryn"/> etc. The verb <w type="rec">æm-tūxyn</w> gave rise to another alternating version <ref type="xr" target="#entry_æncʼūxyn"/> q. v.</etym>
