исторической точки зрения остается сближение с угро-финскими названиями меди:

звуковой стороны этимология безупречна, но семантически мало

<etym xml:lang="en">This word is of unclear etymology. The most acceptable
hypothesis from a linguistic and a historical prospective is to bring this word
closer to Finno-Ugric names of copper: <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4582e218" xml:id="mentioned_d4582e260" xml:lang="kv"><lang/>
<w>yrgön</w></mentioned>, <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4582e223" xml:id="mentioned_d4582e265" xml:lang="udm"><lang/>
<w>yrgon</w></mentioned>, <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4582e228" xml:id="mentioned_d4582e270" xml:lang="chm"><lang/>
<w>vörgene</w></mentioned> , <mentioned corresp="#mentioned_d4582e233" xml:id="mentioned_d4582e275" xml:lang="mns" dialect="mns"><lang/>
<w>ärgin</w></mentioned>. The connections of Ossetic with Finno-Ugric, quite
considerable, are especially visible in names of metals; see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_zærīn"/> gold, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ævzīst"/>
silver, <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ændon"/> steel. <bibl><ref type="bibl" target="#ref_Sköld._Oss."/><biblScope>8</biblScope></bibl> brings
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ærx˳y</hi> closer to Iran *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">arm</hi> blood ("blood-coloured metal"); the
etymology is irreproachable from a phonetic perspective but semanticaly it is
