out’. The vowel <c>æ</c> would have been more expected in Ossetic (<hi rendition="#rend_italic">*tænʒ-</hi>).
However, the change of <c>æ</c> into <c>i</c> → <c>y</c> has been attested in
other cases as well: <ref type="xr" target="#entry_fynddæs"/> ‘15’ (instead of
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">fænʒdæs</hi>), <ref type="xr" target="#entry_ingæn"/> ‘grave’ (instead of
