<etym xml:lang="ru">Образовано из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">īw-daʒ-ug</hi>, где <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īw"/> ‘один’, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-ug</hi> — формант, а <hi rendition="#rend_italic">daʒ</hi> — из <hi rendition="#rend_italic">tāč</hi>
‘течь’ (см. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_tæʒyn"/>), буквально „однотечный“.
Аналогичное образование получило в согдийском иное значение:
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">*ew-tač-(ywtč)</hi> ‘один’, ‘отдельный’. Может быть, созвучие между осетинским
и согдийским словом случайное.</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">It is formed from <hi rendition="#rend_italic">īw-daʒ-ug</hi>, where <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īw"/> means one, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">-ug</hi> is a formant, and <hi rendition="#rend_italic">daʒ</hi> is from
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">tāč</hi> to flow (see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_tæʒyn"/>), literally „of
one flow“. The analogous formation in Sogdian has a different meaning:
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">*ew-tač-(ywtč)</hi> one, separate. Maybe the consonance between Ossetic and
Sogdian is accidental.</etym>
