<w>šajtan</w></mentioned>. Cf. <mentioned xml:lang="kbd"><lang/>
<w>šetʼan</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ce"><lang/><w> šajtʼa</w> (pl.
<w>šajtʼanas</w>)</mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="av"><lang/>
<w>šajtʼan</w></mentioned> and analogous words in other Caucasian languages. Also
<mentioned xml:lang="uk"><lang/>
<w>šajtan</w></mentioned>, <mentioned xml:lang="ru"><lang/> (southern dialects)
<w>šajtan</w></mentioned> are from Turkic. The <mentioned xml:lang="hbo"><lang/> form
of this word <w>sāṭān</w></mentioned> came through the Bible in all European languages.
— There are many synonyms in Ossetic that refer to the evil spirit. The usual name for a
