<etym xml:lang="ru">Не от <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/> ‘спор’, как можно
было бы думать по первому впечатлению, а от глагола *<hi rendition="#rend_italic">dæwyn</hi> | <ref type="xr" target="#entry_idæwun"/> ‘оспаривать’, сохранившегося самостоятельно только
в дигорском. Суффикс -<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ag</hi>, а не -<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ccag</hi>, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cc</hi>—вставка. Что слово
образовалось от <hi rendition="#rend_italic">dæwyn</hi>, а не <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/>,
доказывается тем, что вставка -<hi rendition="#rend_italic">cc</hi>- появляется только в отглагольных
образованиях: <hi rendition="#rend_italic">iv-cc-ag</hi> от <ref type="xr" target="#entry_īvyn"/>,
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">sqiw-cc-ag</hi> от <ref type="xr" target="#entry_sqīwyn"/>, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kælæ-cc-ag</hi> от
<ref type="xr" target="#entry_kælyn"/> и др. Наконец, начальное <hi rendition="#rend_italic">i</hi> в
дигорском также указывает на д. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_idæwun"/>, а не д.
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">dawæ</hi> [см. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/>]. От <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/> аналогичное образование существует и звучит
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">dajwag</hi>. См. д. <ref type="xr" target="#entry_idæwun"/>.</etym>
<etym xml:lang="en">It is not derived from <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/>
‘dispute’, as one could think due to the first impression, but from the verb
*<hi rendition="#rend_italic">dæwyn</hi> | <ref type="xr" target="#entry_idæwun"/> ‘dispute (v.)’, which
remains only in Digor as a separate word. The suffix is -<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ag</hi> and not
-<hi rendition="#rend_italic">ccag</hi>, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">cc</hi> is inserted. The fact that the word was derived from
<hi rendition="#rend_italic">dæwyn</hi>, and not from <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/> is demonstrated by
the fact that the -<hi rendition="#rend_italic">cc</hi>- appears only in verbal derivatives: <hi rendition="#rend_italic">iv-cc-ag</hi> from
<ref type="xr" target="#entry_īvyn"/>, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">sqiw-cc-ag</hi> from <ref type="xr" target="#entry_sqīwyn"/>, <hi rendition="#rend_italic">kælæ-cc-ag</hi> from <ref type="xr" target="#entry_kælyn"/> etc. Finally, the initial <hi rendition="#rend_italic">i</hi> in Digor also points
to the Digor <ref type="xr" target="#entry_idæwun"/>, and not Digor <hi rendition="#rend_italic">dawæ</hi>
[see <ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/>]. There is a similar derivative from
<ref type="xr" target="#entry_daw"/> which sounds like <hi rendition="#rend_italic">dajwag</hi>. See Digor
<ref type="xr" target="#entry_idæwun"/>.</etym>
