Goes back to argh-; cf. ərəɣant- vile (epithet applied to the underworld and to harmful insects), arǧand stingy (for semantics cf. Ossetic ælǧīn stingy, greedy), arɣant (ʼrɣʼnt) greedy. The Iranian root in question has all the features of a verbal one: ælǧæd satiety is a past participle in form, and ərəɣant- is a present participle from the root argh-. A relationship to glā-, glāyati to feel disgust, to be exhausted (Ws. Miller. OÈ III 143) seems implausible due to the isolated position of this ancient Old Indic verb. 4–5.
