The fusion of the preverb æn-(← ham-) with the verb tæryn to drive being in use independently. The appearance of the ejective consonant tʼ instead of t can be explained by the idea of a physical effort connected with this word; compare ‘to tighten strongly’, ‘to pierce’ etc.; finally, the same verb tæryn with another preverb æf- : ‘to devour’. The alternation æ || i in Digor is found in a number of cases (usually, before r): | æftʼirūn, | ævdirzun, | ægirid, | liǧz etc. See ; compare .522.
