Связь с ‘призывать’ невероятна как по необычности перехода s → z и различию форм прош. основы (sīdt, ævzyst), так и по семантической отдаленности. The fusion of the preverb æv- (from abī or apa) with the stem zīd- | zed-, cf. ba-zéid-, bi-zéid- to hit, to push, to hit the target (887); probably, it traces back to zi-, hi- to chase, to push, to throw etc., moreover, in Ossetic the stem of a past participle form ( zita-, hita-) was taken as a present tense stem; cf. in this relation . A range of Iranian and %bOld Indian%b words is derived from the root zi-, hi-; these words are semantically very close to ævzīdyn: zaena-, zēn, zīn weapon, heti- throwing weapon, hetú motive, incitement, hetṛ- horse driver etc. The connection with ‘to urge’ is unreal because of both an unusual transposition s → z and the difference between forms of past tense (sīdt, ævzyst), and because of semantic distance. У поэта Коста встречается также форма ævzidt. In the work of the poet Kosta one also encounters the form ævzidt.
