If we suppose that in the begining there is the preverb yz- ( uz-), the stem mīl- | mel- may be connected with the Indo-European *mer, which is found in μέρμīς thread, μηρύω I wind (round) etc. zmelt (= æzmilt a type of yarn) was borrowed from Ossetic.
