In a regular way, goes back to ava-zarya- (ry → l, as in mælyn, kælyn, næl and others). Cf. harya-, haryati love, court, χαίρω experience joy, χάρις courtesy, disposition, mercy, χαρίζομαι please, oblige, care, court. zara- aspiration, zār wish ( 744), zaritʼsja gaze (at smth.), заркий greedy, gerōn wish (v.), gern with will, gierig greedy, horior encourage and others show further semantic development ( 440–441).
