Сюда же в этом случае *span- в spanan обольщать, Gespenst обольщение, привидение. И по значению и фонетически напрашивается сближение ос. fson с sponte (творительный падеж) в таких выражениях, как sponte suā по собственному побуждению, сам по себе. Suppposing the usual development fs from sf ← sp, we trace it back to *spāna-, which regularly corresponds to sān method, way, look, foundation, reason etc. (sān is related to *spāna-, as sag dog is related to *spaka-): či sān ki= Ossetic cy fson why, on what grounds. sān, sān, sāng were acquired from Persian. The latter relations are unknown. If we take the meaning ‘look’, ‘way’, ‘likeness’ for the semantic foundation, we can also relate the following words to it: afsān (← af-sān ← abi-spāna-) sorcerer, afsāna delusion, hallucination, fantasy, fable, afsūn magic. In this case *span- in spanan tempt, Gespenst temptation, ghost is also related to it. Both in the meaning and in the phonetic form the relation of Ossetic fson thrusts itself on sponte (instrumental case) in such expressions as sponte suā by one's own will, per se.
