пряжка buckle застежка fastener Восходит к grabaka от grab- хватать, схватывать и пр.; отглагольное имя на -æg (←-a-ka) ( §§ 110, 1691) от . Обычно такие образования обозначают действующее лицо; в данном случае — орудие. Ос. ᵆrǧævæg имеет идеальное, казалось бы, соответствие в ɣrabay, ɣrəbay пряжка, застежка. Однако тут есть одна аномалия: в афганском, как в осетинском, ожидали бы между гласными v, а не b (см.: Morgenstierne, 1961, стр. 24434). Безупречно с фонетической стороны другое афганское слово того же корня и образования, но с несколько иным значением: ɣrəvay ладонь ( 605); ɣrəvay и ɣrəbay восходят оба к grabaka-, как и ос. ᵆrǧævæg, но фонетически дифференцировались в силу потребностей семантического различения. Родственные слова в германских языках дают пример такого же семантического развития: greb ручка, дужка — greb ладонь ( I 343). — См. ; ср. arǧævnæ клещи. Traces back to grabaka from grab- grab, grasp etc.; a deverbal noun formed with -æg (←-a-ka) ( §§ 110, 1691) from . Usually such forms are nomina agentis; in this case it means the instrument. Ossetic ᵆrǧævæg has an ideal, it would seem, correspondence in ɣrabay, ɣrəbay buckle, fastener. However, there is one anomaly here: one would exprect v between vowels, not b in Pashto, as well as in Ossetic (see: Morgenstierne, 1961, p. 24434). Another Pashto word of the same root and with the same derivation pattern is flawless from the phonetic point of view, but has a slightly different meaning: ɣrəvay palm ( 605); both ɣrəvay and ɣrəbay trace back to grabaka-, as well as Ossetic ᵆrǧævæg, but they are phonetically differentiated due to the needs of semantic distinction. Related words in the Germanic languages provide an example of the same semantic development: greb handle, shackle — greb palm ( I 343). — See ; cf. arǧævnæ tongs.
