Sirdon
имя одного из популярнейших героев осетинского (нартовского) эпоса. Отличался хитростью, находчивостью и остроумием, но также злоязычием и склонностью ко всяким козням. Его отравленный язык сеял повсюду вражду и раздоры. В сказаниях он часто характеризуется как Narty fydbylyz злой гений Нартов. Он враждовал с Сосланом и стал виновником гибели этого прославленного героя. По некоторым вариантам (например: 43—50), он привел к гибели также другого знаменитого Нарта, Батраза, подстрекнув его к роковой схватке с небесными силами. He was exclusively cunning, resourceful and ingenious, but also wicked and prone to trickery. His poisoned tongue sowed enmity and strife everywhere. He is often described in stories as Narty fydbylyz Nartsʼ evil genius. He was at enmity with Soslan and became the culprit in the death of this illustrious hero. In some variants (e.g., 43—50), he also led to the death of another famous Nart, Batraz, inciting him to a fatal battle with the heavenly forces. The image of Sirdon and his role in the death of Soslan was compared by Dumézil to the image of Loki in Scandinavian mythology and to the role that Loki played in the death of the god Baldr (Dumézil. Loki. Paris, 1948). If so, then Syrdon come close to other zoophoric names of the Nart epic, such as (from varka- wolf), (from vardza- boar). The formant -on is patronymic. Names equipped with this formant are typical of the old anthroponymy of the Ossetians; cf. the names of the legendary ancestors of Ossetian families Cæraʒon, Qusægon, Cʼæxīlon, and, in the present dictionary, also the names and . — This hero and his name are also known to other peoples of the Caucasus having the Nart epic: Šerdan, Širdan, Šərtan, (Botoqo) Širtta, (Botoqo) Šertuqo. In the toponymy of Balkaria there is a name Šərdan-aiaq-əzə Shyrdanʼs footprint (Kokov, Shakhmurzaev. Balkarskij toponimičeskij slovarʼ [Balkar toponymic dictionary].
