An old fusion of the preverb a- with the stem manθ mix, stir, shake; cf. ā-mant- : ā-masta- damage (by pushing, hitting), maṃth (-mant), menth- stain, mand- (kšemandəl) knead, mānd- rub, polish, mənd smear. The fusion of the same stem with the preverb yz- is found in the verb yzmæntynæzmæntun mix, muddle. There is no verb mæntyn without a preverb in Ossetic. See further under .
