Such words as dælarm under the arm, ræmbyn elbow, ælmærin cubit, ærmæftaw sling bag, indicate that meant not only hand (see ), but the whole arm and hand; cf. also ærddæ hands in Jalguzidze ( 27 24). The same word was used in the sense shaft, as seen in ar shaft, and also ardwan rasp and ærmbos tug

Для истории осетинского языка представляет интерес, что понятия рука, нога, рот имеют наряду с иранскими наименованиями (arm, , ) параллельный ряд неиранских, идущих из кавказского субстрата (, , ), причем последние в самостоятельном употреблении почти вытеснили первые, тогда как в старых сложных словах и сочетаниях встречаются почти исключительно первые (иранские).Вс. Like most anatomical terms (see , , , , , , , , etc.), belongs to the old Iranian stock: arm (not attested in the literature), ärmä shoulder ( Abt. III, Bd. IV, p. 280), yurm hand, yārmё ( II 59), ām shoulder, forearm, arm (ʼrm) in ʼpsʼrm with the hands tied behind ( II 90), er- hand ( X 585), arəma- hand, īrmá- hand, armukn elbow, ramo shoulder, irmo, arms, Arm hand, armus shoulder-blade. For the history of Ossetic, it is of interest that the concepts hand, leg, mouth, along with Iranian names (arm, , ) have a parallel set of non-Iranian terms coming from the Caucasian substratum (, , ), and in independent use, the latter words almost forced out the former, while in the old compound words and collocations the former (Iranian) words are still used almost exclusively.Ws.
