Miller's comparison with čud-, čod- induce, urge on, hurry (III 151; 28) is hard to accept because of meaning differences. The root cūd- is rather the change from *tūd- (cf. || ‘warm onesefl’); in this case cf. tud- push, poke, ttund- recoil from, stray (from the truth)’? (273%l235%l). In Ossetic middle voice meaning is kept (cf. ‘rock’ — ‘totter’); for the development of the meaning cf. totter which is derived from the same root.
