The stem is a strong variant of the root of the verb ’walk’. Cf. for the semantics prois-xoditʼ, prois-šestvie. A strong variant of the stem caw is found also in such compounds as: bon-caw [see ], don-ʒaw [see ], xos-ʒaw [see ] etc., in | cawæn ‘hunting’, in Digor ‘walk through’ and may be in ‘bad’.
