Озвончение начального t → d имело место первоначально в сложениях dy-daǧ, aj-daǧ, д. ew-daǧ [см. ] и уже оттуда перешло на обособленную лексему (как ‘средство’ есть обособление второй части сложных слов типа - ‘точило’ из cyrǧ-kænæn). Восстанавливаемое *tāk идентично с tāk, tā складка, сгиб: dō-tā двойной = dy-daǧ. Ср. , ewdaǧ, . Probably, it traces back to *tāk through grades *tax → taǧ → daǧ. The voicing of the initial t → d was originally in componds %idy-daǧ, aj-daǧ, Digor ew-daǧ%i [see ] and then moved to the separate lexical item (like ‘tool’ is an isolated second part of such compounds as - ‘grindstone’ from cyrǧ-kænæn). The reconstructed *tāk is identical to tāk, tā crease, fold: dō-tā double = dy-daǧ. Cf. , ewdaǧ, .
