В обычном праве осетин процесс примирения заключался именно в „возмещении“ (за кровь, за увечье, за материальный ущерб). Значение ‘быть к лицу’, ‘приличествовать’ и пр. — дальнейшее развитие значений ‘мириться’, ‘согласоваться’, ‘соответствовать’. Ср. ‘платить’. May be derived from fī-da- | fe-da- ← *pati-dā- reimburse. In this case fīdawyn ‘reconcile’ and ‘pay’ would turn out to be etymologycally equal, with the only difference that the stem of the first verb has a strong ablaut grade (dā-), and the stem of the second verb has a zero ablaut grade (d-); cf. a-majyn [], ny-majyn [] and fæz-myn []. The meaning ‘reconcile’ might have developed via the meaning ‘reimburse’: ‘compensate an enemy for damage done’. In the ordinary Ossetic law, the process of reconciliation consisted precisely of “compensation” (for blood, for injury, for material damage). The meaning ‘sut’, ‘befit’, etc. is a further development of meanings ‘reconcile’, ‘agree’, ‘correspond’. Cf. ‘pay’.
