Вероятно, относится к числу скифо-европейских изоглосс и восходит к last(a)ka- из ləd-to-ko-, от lē-, lēd-, ləd- оставлять, предоставлять, отдавать в наем, в аренду; ср. lētan, lātan, lassen оставлять, от того же корня lǣs, ср. leswe пастбище, lāđ земельная собственность, un-leđs, un-lǣd неимущий, λάτρον наемная плата, λατρεία, λάτρευμα работы по найму, батрачество, λάτρις наемный работник, батрак. Для развития значения оставлять, предоставлять → сдавать в наем, в аренду ср. lease сдавать в аренду, lessee арендатор из laissier, lesser оставлять или leihen давать взаймы, Lehen лен, наследственная собственность, предоставляемая феодалом вассалу за его службу из leik˳- оставлять. — Институт, соответствующий ос. , известен и соседним народам Кавказа; ср. например vott, foat, foat-žæ стадо овец, отдаваемое кому-либо на кормление за часть приплода (Ужахов. Инг.- русск. сл. Владикавказ, 1927, стр. 63). Probably belongs among the Scytho-European isoglosses and goes back to last(a)ka- from ləd-to-ko-, from lē-, lēd-, ləd- leave, let, give away for rent; cf. lētan, lātan, lassen leave, from the same root lǣs, cf. leswe pasture, lāđ land property, un-leđs, un-lǣd deprived, λάτρον payment for hired service, λατρεία, λάτρευμα work for hire, farm-hand service, λάτρις hired labourer, farm hand. For the development leave, provide → rent out, lease cf. lease, lessee from laissier, lesser leave or leihen lend, Lehen flax, inherited property provided by a feudal lord to his vassal for his service from leik˳- leave. — An institute corresponding to the Ossetic is also known to neighbouring peoples of the Caucasus; cf. e.g. vott, foat, foat-žæ herd of sheep given to somebody for caretaking in exchange for a part of its offspring (Užakhov. Ingush-Russian dictionary. Vladikavkaz, 1927, p. 63).
