Miller (Digor tales 14049) provides an imprecise meaning upper part of the back and interprets it as a compound of mækʼur back of the head and æstæg bone. Semantically, this is not very convincing. From Ossetic come: muguštuk shoulder bone, makʼwšdäg hip, thigh. Already in 1791, (II 499) cited the form makuschdak thigh. 299.
