From Turkic or Mongolian, where this word usually denotes the colour of a number of animals: qula yellow-gray, chestnut, qula at a bun horse, with a black mane and the same tail or a chestnut horse with a black mane and tail, qulaꞑ-bulaꞑ motley (= qūlon-mūlon) ( II 967 ff., 973), qula, xula id. From here, probably, qulan wild horse, wild donkey, and also qulanaq kolonok, Siberian weasel, qulunǧa ermine with red eyes ( II 980).
