Для семантического отношения ребро — грудь ср. parəsu- ребро — перси грудь. На иранской почве соответствий не видно. Пам. в. rīp волосы на теле фонетически можно было бы сблизить с ос. rīw: ср. cʼīw птенец, цыпленок из cip-, cæw козел из čap-, xawyn падать из kap-. Семантическую связь волосы — грудь (волосатая грудь) можно было бы поддержать pectus грудь при pecto чешу, πόκος шерсть. На беду, rīp не имеет само надежной этимологии. Morgenstierne ( II 537) предположительно возводит rīp к reup- вырывать. Если эта этимология верна, то ос. rīw явно сюда не относится; reup- живет в rūvyn полоть. — В языке ванеци, близком к афганскому, отмечено слово rēbūn рубашка. Elfenbein ( 1967 XXXV 596) снабжает это слово пометой: et. unknown. Между тем rēbūn безупречно возводится к rai-pāna- покров (pāna-) для груди (rai-). Если так, то, может быть, можно говорить о восточноиранском rai- грудь, которое (с наращением -w, как в , , ʒawmaw) дало ос. rīw | rew, (в сложении) rē-. This word should possibly be derived from raibya- and brought closer to the Germanic and Slavi names of the rib: rebja- ( rebhyo-), rif, ref, riv, rev, riv, rib, ribb, Rippe, rebro, rebro. As for the semantic relation rib — chest cf. parəsu- rib — persi bosom. There are no correspondences in the Iranian languages. rīp body hair could be phonetically brought closer to Ossetic rīw: cf. cʼīw baby bird, chick from cip-, cæw goat from čap-, xawyn fall from kap-. The semantic relation hair — chest (hairy chest) could be supported by pectus chest in the presence of pecto comb, πόκος wool. Unfortanutely, rīp itself has no reliable etymology. Morgenstierne ( II 537) presumably traces rīp back to reup- tear out. If this etymology is correct, then Ossetic rīw is obviously irrelevant; reup- is present in rūvyn weed. — In Wanetsi, which is close to Afghan, there is a word rēbūn shirt. Elfenbein ( 1967 XXXV 596) gives this word a note: et. unknown. Meanwhile rēbūn is impeccably traced back to rai-pāna- chest (rai-) cover (pāna-). If so, then maybe it is possible to talk about East Iranian rai- chest, which (with the added -w, as in , , ʒawmaw) gave Ossetic rīw | rew, (in compound) rē-.
