Принимая во внимание, что rv может восходить закономерно к br ( из brātā и т. п.), возводим к sabra-θa-, где -θa- (-θwa-) — формант коллективности, и, исходя из основного значения общее владение односельчан, сближаем с шабр, сябр, себр, шабёр, сябер, себёр сосед, артельщик, надольщик, который обрабатывает землю совместно с другим крестьянином, sẽbras товарищ, пайщик, seura общество (многочисленные дериваты этого слова и его соответствия в других финских языках см.: IV 1006), себрá община, артель. Для устанавливается, таким образом, значение общинное владение, общинная земля, что полностью поддерживается современными реалиями; ср., в частности, сябреные земли земли общего пользования ( IV 383). Miller and Benveniste, based on unreal form særwat (see the footnote above), divide the word as sær-wat; the second part they equate with the living Ossetic word wat in the meaning place, whereas the first one (sær) they equate with Avestan sarəδa- race, ṡardha- herd. If one keeps in mind the only attested form , this etymology must be considered unacceptable: as the second part of compounds preserves the strong vowel a (see: § 201I I); also, w in this position (after a consonant) may be dropped (cf. from fadwat, from bynwat), but by no means turn into v. Considering that rv may regularly go back to br ( from brātā etc.), we derive from sabra-θa-, where -θa- (-θwa-) is an affix that denotes collectivity and, based on the main meaning common posession of fellow villagers, bring it closer to šabr, sjabr, sebr, šabjor, sjabjor, sebjor neighbor, artisan, partner that cultivates the land together with another peasant, sẽbras comrade, interest holder, seura society(multiple derivatives of this word and its cognates in other Finno-Ugric languages see: IV 1006), sebrá community, artel. For , therefore, the meaning posession of a community, land of a community is established, which is completely supported by the realities of that time; cf., in particular, sjabrenye zemli lands of common usage ( IV 383). This word is, thus, an important Scythian-Slavic-Baltic-Finnish socio-economic isogloss. — The word preserved in the toponymics of Balkaria: Sərbət the name of the tract ( 284).
