Не лишено интереса сравнение семантического развития двух осетинских глаголов со значением обманывать: и . Probably, the word goes back to Iranian sāy-, Indo-European sḱāi- cast a shadow sparkle (often about the false, deceptive light): sāyā shadow, ghost, wraith, sāig, siāig shadow, shady, a-saya- one who doesn't cast a shadow, čhāyā- shadow, gleam, reflection, sijati, sijat', skī pretence (false light), skeinan shine, scheinen shine, look like, seem, appear, Schein a shine, shimmer, appearance, illusion , scheinbar apparent, illusory, Scheinbild ghost, phantom, skiyo, σχιά shadow, ghost, appearance, illusion etc. ( 917 — 918).Is ki- (← ski-) liea cognate? Ideosemantics shadow → deception is supported by other languages; see above in Germanic languages the meanings ghost, appearance, illusion, pretense. There is an expression in German: Jemanden hinters Licht führen lead somebody into a shadow in the sense to deceive. Cf, also chattra umbrella → chadman deception. The most bright semantic parallel is moroka darkness, twilight — moročit' deceive by trickery, deceit, false assurances, charm ( II 348); cf. Ossetic in the sense lure, entice etc. Also interesting is the comparison of the semantic development of two Ossetic verbs with the meaning deceive: and .
