В пользу оригинальности осетинского слова говорит и то, что почти вся терминология, связанная с верховой ездой, — исконное иранское наследие; см. всадник (также , ), уздечка, попона, подпруга, хвостовой ремень, стремя. — Древнеиранский прототип слова saγr, sarγ остается неясным. Возможна этимологическая связь с σαγρα рядом с σάγμα (вьючное) седло, saγ верх, свод, крыша. Из согдийского идет saγrə, savrə, saurə круп лошади I 614, откуда савры тебеньки седельные, кожаные подколенники у седла ( IV 127). 126. — 72 — 73. — 131; 161 (восстанавливает пехл. sarγ). 805 (привлекает также sirekh, siregh стеганое шерстяное одеяло, матрац). Shegren, and after him Ws. Miller and Hübschmann, attributed this word to the circle of borrowings from Arabic ( sarj saddle). However, once the word was found in Sogdian, one need to pose the question differently: wasn't sarj itself borrowed from Iranian? Cf. sarj (is it derived from sarg under the Arabic influence?), sarγ, saγr (sʼγr) saddle ( I 211. — Benveniste. 1936, p. 228; 205; 91; 1933, p. 37), saγm camel saddle ( CXX 298). In favour of the originality of the Ossetic word speaks also the fact that almost all the terminology connected with the horse riding is an original Iranian heritage; see horseman (also , ), bridle, horsecloth, (saddle-)girth, tail strap, stirrup. — The Old Iranian prototype of the word saγr, sarγ remains unclear. The etymological connection with σαγρα along with σάγμα (pack) saddle, saγ top, arch, roof is possible. From the Sogdian saγrə, savrə, saurə croup of a horse I 614 is borrowed, savry leather details of the saddle that are situated under horseman's knees ( IV 127) is a borrowing from Turkic. 126. — 72 — 73. — 131; 161 (he reconstructs Middle Persian sarγ). 805 (he adds also sirekh, siregh quilted wool blanket, mattress).
