Cf. tamāšā entertainment, spectacle, outlandish performance, miracle, tamaša chose digne d’être vue (). It entered the Turkic, Caucasian, and some Slavic languages. Etymologically, it is related to the Arabic root msy to walk, to wander. However, it is not excluded that it is an old borrowing from θανμάχοσ marvelous, amazing, wonderful. In this case see also wi-tāmās, wi-tīmās miracle, wi-tāmāsīk wonderful. The word entered Ossetic twice: first in the form tæmæs, then in the formtamasa; see the last word for additional facts.
