Не случайно и то, что значение болото сближает афганский именно с тохарским: тохары долгое время были ближайшими соседями среднеазиатских саков ( 136—139). — Как чисто ландшафтный термин tærf не может сближаться с tarf глубокий (сон), тяжелый (больной). It goes back to the Scytho-European isogloss tarpo-. This isogloss covers Slavic, Baltic, Tocharian and Thracian: trapъ pit, tárpas span, slit, cleft, tarpēklis hollow, trough, tarp swamp, tarpo- in the toponym Tarpo-dizos Talfestung (Dečev. Charakteristik der thrakishen Sprache. Sofia, 1960, pp. 149, 183). On Iranian basis cf. also tarma swamp, bog ( 83), if tarpa → tarba → tarma. The presence of the word in Afghani is natural, considering that this language is also historically related to the Saka-Scythian ( 139 w.). It is also not accidental that the meaning swamp brings Afghani specifically closer to Tocharian: the Tocharians were for a long time the closest neighbors of the Central Asian Saks ( 136—139). — As a purely landscape term tærf cannot converge withtarf deep (sleep), heavy (sick).
