Полную семантическую параллель находим в самом осетинском: nyjjarc wyn устремиться, ринуться, буквально уподобиться дротику, см. arc дротик, копье. Ср. tomara- дротик, копье. Сюда же томара стрела ( III 976), томар, томарка стрела с костяным тупым наконечником для боя соболя; томарóм побежал бегом, лётом, сломя голову ( IV 414); III 118: Unklar. выражение томаром побежал соответствует ratomar kodta устремился. Ср. далее tomār, имен. падеж мн. ч. tomāri дротик, копье (Poucha. Institutiones linguae tocharicae, I. Praha, 955, стр. 128). Вполне убедительного этимологического анализа не существует. (117) сближал по корню с tuǰati напирает. толкает, tudati колет ( (s)teu-). В русском слово не может быть оригинальным: из teumero- ожидали бы тумеръ. Поэтому приходится думать о заимствовании из скифского или сарматского. Тохар. tomār усвоено, видимо, из санскрита. Goes back to taumara- arrow, dart, spear: tomar kænun strive meant be like an arrow. We find a complete semantic parallel in Ossetic itself: nyjjarc wyn strive, rush, literally be like a dart, see arc dart, spear. Cf. tomara- dart, spear. See also tomara arrow ( III 976), tomar, tomarka arrow with a bone blunt tip for sable hunting; tomaróm pobezhal running, flying, headlong ( IV 414); III 118: Unklar. the expression tomarom pobezhal corresponds to ratomar kodta rushed. Cf. further tomār, nom. pl. tomāri dart, spear (Poucha. Institutiones linguae tocharicae, I. Praha, 955, p. 128). There is no completely convincing etymological analysis. (117) brought its root close to tuǰati (s/he) presses. (s/he) pushes, tudati (s/he) stabs ( (s)teu-). In Russian, the word cannot be original: from teumero- we would expect tymerъ. Therefore, one has to think about borrowing from Scythian or Sarmatian. tomār acquired, apparently, from Sanskrit.
