Соответственно wædært(t) возводится к wartaθra- вертушка от wart- вертеть. Сюда же watra (←wartaθra-) ручное веретено ( 351), vartula, vartani-, vreteno, Wirtel, gwerthud прясло. — Вся терминология, связанная с обработкой шерсти, отличается в осетинском глубокой древностью и оригинальностью: lvynyn стричь, wærdyn валять (шерсть), nyvændyn мотать, ’lvisyn прясть, wafyn ткать, lx˳yj веретено и др. С этим полностью согласуются археологические данные. Наличие ткачества (у скифов) свидетельствуется находками многочисленных глиняных и свинцовых пряслиц конических и биконических, т. е. грузиков, надевавшихся на веретена для придания им устойчивости (Граков. Скифы. М., 1971, стр. 50). Пряслица… найдены на всей территории расселения савроматов (К. Ф. Смирнов. Савроматы. The final cluster -rt(æ) in the names of tools regularly continues nominum instrumenti -θа-, -tro-, -tla-; cf. sart, mært, wart. Correspondingly wædært(t) is derived from wartaθra- rotator from wart- rotate. Here also belong watra (←wartaθra-) hand spindle ( 351), vartula, vartani-, vreteno, Wirtel, gwerthud whorl. — All terminology related to wool processing in Ossetic is distinguished by its deep antiquity and originality: lvynyn cut, wærdyn to felt (wool), nyvændyn to reel, ’lvisyn spin, wafyn weave, lx˳yj spindle etc. This is in full agreement with archaeological data. The presence of weaving (among the Scythians) is testified by the findings of numerous clay and lead conical and biconical whorls, i.e. little weights that were put on spindles to give them balance (Grakov. Skify [The Scythians]. Moscow, 1971, p. 50). Whorls… have been found on all the territory of Sarmatian dwelling (K. F. Smirnov. Savromaty [Sarmatians].
