Кроме того, надежно документируемое в осетинском значение ярус наводит на мысль, что имела место контаминация с qat ярус, этаж ( II 274—275. — 241. — 593. — III 419. — 174). Cf. xatan house ( 76; Festschrift Grierson 1936 VIII 2—3 660). It is natural, it would seem, to associate both words with kata- cellar, closet, kad house, (from Iranian) xata, kota et cetera. However, as Morgenstierne ( 1961, p. 245₅₈), rightly pointed out, in both languages t (would expect d) is not clear. Ossetic has another anomaly: a strong vowel a in the first syllable (would expect æ, cf. , ). In addition, the reliably documented meaning tier in Ossetic suggests that there was a contamination with qat tier, floor ( II 274—275. — 241. — 593. — III 419. — 174).
