Gras. — VI 435—437). vāstra- пастбище, трава, xvastra- (= hu-vāstra-)добротравный, добропастбищный ( 1879). По семантическому развитию трава → лекарство → порох ср. зелье трава, лекарство, яд, порох; также см. . В этом же плане ср. еще rūrā (rwrʼ) лекарство = urvarā- растение (Henning, XIV 476). К д. xwasæ примыкает, возможно, xavsi мох ( 70, 74, 128). Goes back to huwāstra- good (hu-) grass (wāstra-). For a special, affectionate attitude towards useful plants, see , . The cluster str (likewise sr) regularly yields in Ossetic s: ræs rasp from rastra-, syl woman from stri- (+l), daræs cloth from dāra-vastra-. Other Iranian languages reflect the simple wāstra-, wāstrya- without embellishing epithet hu-: waṣ̌ə, γwāši, wīṣ̌, wuš grass, wuš straw, weṣ̌, wōṣ̌ grass, hay, hvāṣṣā-, waš, wāš, wēš, wēš grass (Henning, XV 236, hvāṣṣā- and some other Iranian words for grass given may not go back to wāstra- but to waxša- from waxš- grow ( 793, s. v. Gras. — VI 435—437). vāstra- pasture, grass, xᵛastra- (= hu-vāstra-)good-grassed, good-pastured ( 1879). Compare the semantic development grass → remedy → gunpowder to зелье grass, remedy, poison, gunpoder; see also . In the same respect, consider also rūrā (rwrʼ) remedy = urvarā- plant (Henning, XIV 476). Digor xwasæ links, perhaps, to xavsi moss ( 70, 74, 128).
