It traces back to *ham-sān-, the fusion of the preverb æn-(←ham-) and the stem san-, which is found in other iranian languages in the meaning ‘to go up’ (causative pair — ‘to lift’); compare san-: sat-, san- to go up, san-(s'n) id. (causative pair is ˈto lift') (compare: BaileyIX 77), sn- to go up, s'n to lift, 'ws'n to get down, ‘to throw down’ (1940, p. 509), sōn-, sayn- to lift; s'n- to produce; also here dialectra-san-anda leading? There is left a causative meaning in Ossetic.
