Morgenstierne very carefully (with two question marks) traces it back to xšarya- (Irano-Dardica. Wiesbaden, 1973, стр. 85, прим. 6p. 85, note 6; cf.: 1948, стр. 711948, p. 71). Caucasian origin is possible. Cf. askʼili rose hip, skeri rhododendron, šxeili, šxeili, škeli juniper. Resemblance to xsær hazelnut may be a coincidence.
