Probably, it traces back to *čuka; non-Iranian correspondences appear, cf. čukavo just enough, čukavyj hardly reaching, tight ( lapotki čukavye bast shoes are tight, obed xorošij, no čukavyj the dinner is good but not enough). Further connections appear in Finno-Ugric languages: csok- diminish, čuktyny fall off.
