щемить oppress давить suppress Вероятно, из группы звукоподражательно-изобразительных слов, связанных с семантикой физического усилия; отсюда и наличие смычно-гортанного (ср. 522 сл.). Probably, it relates to the group of onomatopoetic-figural words connected with the semantic of physical effort; this is the reason of an ejective consonant (cf. 522 сл.).
