Traces back to *pa(s)nu-ka. The drop of the s sound happened also in Khotanese; cf. phāna- dust, pasnu- dust, ashes, pam̃su- dust, sand. The s sound was dropped before n as in ‘bath’ from snā- and from snāvar-. In case of the drop of the nasal sound, the form would have looked like *pasuk-, which is perfectly corresponds with pěsъkъ, pesok sand. The u voicing in Digor funuk is a secondary phenomenon, as in some other cases (368).%n20, 34. — KonowXV 114.
