насквозь прогнивший, протухший thoroughly rotten ( I 457) Сложение mærǧ-æmbud. Во второй части — гнилой, q. v. Первая часть mærǧ по смыслу усиливает основное значение. Сопоставляем с морг-, морог- в мо́рготь смрад, чад, морготина прогорклая, вонючая вещь, морготный противный, мо́рговать, моро́говать испытывать гадливое чувство, брезгать, гнушаться (). Возможно, морг- (merg-) и мерз- (merg-) в мерзкий и пр. представляют варианты одной основы; сюда же murch, morkinn гнилой, протухший ( merg- гнить: 740.— I 732). Compound mærǧ-æmbud.
