Сюда же, может быть, ¹mæskʼ овраг ← впадина; ср. для развития значения влагалище vagina и влега, влог впадина, ухабина (). К осетинскому примыкает moskæ ступица (Генко, V 719). If the original meaning is sheath, scabbard, place of insertion (where the axle is inserted), this word might be compared to maškar vagina, scabbard ( 29). Also related, perhaps, to ¹mæskʼ gully ← cavity, depression; cf. for the semantic development vlagališče vagina and vlega, vlog depression, pot-hole (). The Ossetic word is similar to moskæ wheel hub (Genko, V 719).
