From qabəš-, qapəš- grab, embrace each other, fight ( II 452, 453, 414). Cf. kapaš- sinus, holding a child in one’s arms, kapaš noš- embrace ( 270), mistakenly approximated with ʽpkš flank, side (from pakṣa-). Attention is drawn to the inaccurate correspondence of vowels between Iron and Digor; we would expect qæbys | ǧæbis or qæbīs | ǧæbes.
