Ρωξανη (Роксана) скифское и бактрийское женское имя, по значению = Светлана, ʽΡωξανακη столица саков (по Ктесию) = Светлый город ( 178). Traces back to rauxšnaka- from rauxšna- light (n.). See rūxsroxs. In Iron it is retained in toponymy Rūxsnæg the name of the area in the Alagir gorge (E. Barakova, p.c.). Cf. Ρωξανη (Roksana) Scythian and Bactrian female name, in the meaning = Svetlana, ʽΡωξανακη the capital of the Saks (according to Ctesias) = Light City ( 178).
