Жители одного из аварских обществ (Saltʼa) зовутся sul-ul (-ul — показатель множественности) ( 641). С этим sul- следует связать как ос. soly, так и инг. söli (Malsægæ n.Z. Ghalghaj Grammatik. Владикавказ, 1926, стр. 111), süli аварцы (Шерипов. Русско-чеч. сл. Грозный, 1928, стр. 60). — Ср. названия других дагестанских народов: q˳ymyqq кумыки, g˳ybec кубачинцы, lekʼ дагестанцы, лезгины. As it often happens, neighbours called people according to one part of them (cf. allemand German etc.). Residents of one of the Avar societies (Saltʼa) are called sul-ul (-ul — plural affix) ( 641). This sul- should be connected with Ossetic soly, as well as söli (Malsægæ n.Z. Ghalghaj Grammatik. Vladikavkaz, 1926, p. 111), süli Avars (Sheripov. Russian-Chechen dictionary Grozny, 1928, p. 60). — Cf. names of other Daghestan peoples: q˳ymyqq Kumyks, g˳ybec Kubachi, lekʼ Daghestan people, Lezgins.
