Отдельно tīn в значении белка сейчас не употребляется (см. ᵆxsæræg, ), но засвидетельствовано в XVII в. путешественником Витсеном в форме tihin; tīnkærc означало, стало быть, «беличья шуба», а потом вообще «шуба из дорогого меха». По типу сложения (первая часть — забытое тюркское слово, вторая — иранское) ср. aldymbyd тесьма из altyn + , где altyn — тюркское название золота, отдельно в осетинском не употребляемое. 84. From tīn, tijin squirrel ( III 1360 ff. — 470). Separately tīn in the meaning squirrel is not used now (see ᵆxsæræg, ), but attested in the 17th century by a traveler Vitsen in the form tihin; tīnkærc meant, therefore, squirrel coat, and then in general expensive fur coat. For the second part of the compound see kærc fur coat. As for the type of compound (the first part is a forgotten Turkish word, the second part is an Iranian one), cf. aldymbyd lacing from altyn + , where altyn is Turkic name for gold, not used separately in Ossetic. 84.
