Но tas может быть и заимствованием и примыкать к широко распространенному в тюркских, кавказских и европейских языках слову арабского, как считают, происхождения: tas чаша, таз ( 465), ṭās, ṭās чаша ( II 589), tos чашка, миска, таз, лохань, tása медный поднос, tóso сковорода. Сюда же tas ( 266. — Туманов. Русско-арм. сл. Тифлис, стр. 608), tasi чаша, чашка ( IV 345; преимущественно серебрянная: 552), tas id., t’as, t’ars, t’äs, tas таз, tas металлическая кружка (Адыг. сл. 522), таз, Tasse, tasse чашка и пр. ( 160). Источником заимствования для осетинского могли быть тюркские языки или русский. One of those cases where two different etymologies are equally possible. On the one hand, we can consider the word to be a genuine Iranian vocabulary and derive it from tašta-; cf. tašt bowl, cup, basin, dish, tray, tašt, tašta- bowl. This includes also t’ašt’ bowl, piala ( 251), t’ašt’i basin ( VI 1263). The final -t may have fallen away in Ossetic, as in mes leather stocking from mešt. But tas may also be a loanword and may be related to a word widespread in Turkic, Caucasian, and European languages, thought to be of Arabic origin: tas bowl, basin ( 465), ṭās, ṭās bowl ( II 589), tos cup, bowl, basin, tub, tása copper tray, tóso pan. This includes also tas ( 266. — Tumanov. Russko-armjanskij slovarʹ [Russian-Armenian Dictionary]. Tiflis, p. 608), tasi bowl, cup ( IV 345; predominantly silver: 552), tas id., t’as, t’ars, t’äs, tas basin, tas metal cup (Adygejskij slovarʹ [Adyghe Dictionary] 522), taz, Tasse, tasse bowl, etc. ( 160). The source of borrowing into Ossetic could have been Turkic languages or Russian.
